Road Trips

Road trips are great. They offer an affordable way for families to travel to some really cool places here in the United States. I would like to think that a lot more people are choosing road trips over air travel for one simple reason, PRICE. Air fares have slowly risen while most of our incomes have stayed the same or even lowered. When we were planning our summer trip earlier in the year, we realized that our cost of airfare would be rising form around almost $600. This was mostly due to the increase in cost of fuel and baggage charges as well.

We have taken many road trips over the years with the family but our most recent trip was to Yellowstone National Park with our restored Skamper pop up camper. This was a 1000+ mile trip (one way) to the Northwestern part of Wyoming. It was a beautiful drive where we traveled through western plains, mountain passes, and green valleys. We traveled for two days to get there and camped in Yellowstone for 5 days. We had to make reservations almost 4 months prior to our trip to guarantee our spaces in the campground. We stayed in the Grant Village campground where we enjoyed quiet nights and limited perks. The camp sites did not offer electricity or water/sewer hook ups. There were plenty of restrooms and space provided to wash dishes. It was a good place to unplug from the world, just a little. There were plenty of places to stop, eat and enjoy cell phone services if you needed it.

We are looking forward to using our pop up to go on some additional road trips before the season is over. The camping season in the southwest gets extended into almost October depending on how far south you stay or how tough you are.
