Weekend Trips

Weekends trips are great! You can drive to many different places over a weekend and still have a few days to have some fun and explore. I live in the desert Southwest so weekend trips are lots of fun. Here are some of the weekend trips we have taken:

  • Grand Canyon - Absolutely breath taking and awesome, you have to see the Grand Canyon. It is surreal and looks like your are standing in front of a portrait.
  • Carlsbad Caverns -Pretty darn amazing as well.
  • Mesa Verde National Park - You get a real appreciation for Southwest Native American Cultures, beautiful place to visit. Make sure you pack your hiking boots.
  • Vallecito Lake, Colorado - Just got back from a great weekend of awesome mountains views with rivers and streams at almost every turn. The best part is this trip cost us under $250 for food, travel and two nights in a private cabin!
  • Denver, Colorado - 3/12/12 - Just got back from an extended weekend trip to Denver and we had a great time. It was nice to go see a big city and enjoy some of the big city amenities that they have. We went to the Children's Museum and the Denver Natural History museum as well. We also visited the Denver Mint. The Children's Museum was nice but if you are tight on time while in Denver I would skip it and stick to the Natural History Museum and the Denver Mint. They were a lot more exciting for the whole family. We only had two hours to see the Natural History Museum and we definitely missed some exhibits. You need at least 3 hours if not more to see everything there. The Denver Mint is a quick tour (about a half hour) but it is a must to see. You have to make reservations on line to get in to see it. It is a great piece of American history. We had lunch at a great place in LoDo (lower downtown); the Wazee Supper Club and we enjoyed great food and atmosphere. One hint that told us it was a good place is that it was filled with locals and not a bunch of tourist like ourselves. I liked their strombolis and pizza. They even had a dumb waiter that was still in use. You can get more information from their website here: http://www.wazeesupperclub.com/. We also shopped at a few great places as well, namely Ikea and the shops at Castle Rock. We packed a lot of stops into our 3 day weekend trip and it was worth it.
